With a 2,000m long and 45m wide runway, a parking capacity for five class C aircraft and about 550 passengers per hour, divided between domestic and international flights, Cesária Évora International Airport, formerly São Pedro Airport, is the airport serving the island of São Vicente.
Inaugurated in 1960, it is located next to the village of São Pedro, in the valley of Ribeira de São Pedro, about 5km southwest of the city centre of Mindelo, the second largest city in Cape Verde.
Mindelo is still today considered the most welcoming and attractive city in the country, perhaps because of the hospitality of the locals, the buzzing nightlife and its music. Some say that this is where morabeza (Cape Verdean people’s affability) was born and that this is still its headquarters. If you are travelling to Cape Verde, this should definitely be one of your stops.
